EA just shared more about the next Battlefield game in their Investor’s presentation.
Byron Beede, the general manager of Battlefield, mentioned that the four studios working on the game are really focused on making it fun. They’ve been trying new things and listening to player feedback. He said, “The teams have been playing the game nearly daily for well over a year,” which has helped them make it better.
Different studios are handling different parts of the game. DICE is taking care of the multiplayer with some help from Criterion. Criterion and Motive are working together on the single-player campaign. Ripple Effect is creating a new, mysterious Battlefield experience. Beede shared, “They’re working on a new Battlefield experience fueled by the unique Battlefield DNA that’s been testing really well with players.”
Beede also said that the teams are building a connected Battlefield world set in modern times, with strong support from EA. He believes this is the biggest and best team the franchise has ever had.
Vince Zampella, who is also involved, confirmed that the new game will be set in modern times and will be more like the older Battlefield games. It will have fewer players than Battlefield 2042, which had 128-player matches. Also, the class-based gameplay will return, and the Specialist system from 2042 won’t be in the new game. Zampella said, “Our goal is for it to be good out of the gate.”
Fans sometimes feel hopeful and excited when they hear about new games.
Zampella thinks the new Battlefield game might even outsell Call of Duty, although he admitted that both games offer different experiences to their fans.
Battlefield 2042 came out in 2021 but was criticized for bugs and changes to the classic formula. Since then, many maps and systems have been reworked. The game’s Season 7 update, released in March, was its final season.
