About two years back, news came out that Henry Cavill would leave The Witcher after Season 3, with Liam Hemsworth stepping in as Geralt of Rivia.
Though Liam wasn’t watching the show before this, he knew the character well from playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. “I hadn’t seen the TV show and I hadn’t read the books, but I played the video game like ten years ago or something,” Liam shared on Live with Kelly and Mark via IGN. “It’s still, to this day, one of the best video games of all time, and Netflix came to me almost two years ago now and said that they wanted me to step in and take over, and I was really excited by taking on that character because I was a fan of the video game.”
However, before accepting the role, he decided to watch the earlier seasons and read Andrzej Sapkowski’s books. Last year, Liam mentioned that he was “devouring the books” while also training to play Geralt.
Hemsworth will have the opportunity to portray Geralt for two seasons since Netflix has already renewed The Witcher for a fifth and final season. Netflix even gave fans a sneak peek at Liam as Geralt a few months ago when they started filming the fourth season. The Witcher Season 4 is set to premiere in 2025, but the exact date remains unknown.
Sometimes we just can’t wait to see our favorite characters back on screen!
