Mark Zuckerberg Confident in Unbeatable Civilization Skills

-

Mark Zuckerberg, the brain behind Meta, might be launching a Twitch channel all about Civilization, a strategy game he loves.

During the Meta Connect 2024 event, he chatted with Pubity, sharing his excitement for the game: “In terms of strategy games, the one that I’m more likely to want to be the best in the world at is Civilization.” He didn’t say which version he’s into, though, so that’s a bit of a mystery. Zuckerberg also joked about his gaming habits, mentioning how his wife, Priscilla, was shocked when she saw he had spent over a thousand hours on the game. “Priscilla looked at my Steam account the other day and she’s like: ‘What? You’ve played this for more than a thousand hours?'” he laughed, adding that he might stream his gameplay on Twitch since he’s pretty sure he’s almost at grandmaster level. “I’d be surprised if anyone in the world could beat me at that,” he confidently said.

Civilization, made by Firaxis Games, has sold over 50 million copies worldwide, according to 2K Games. Zuckerberg even mentioned during his 2017 Harvard speech that he got his college acceptance letter while he was playing Civilization. It seems like Zuckerberg’s comments come at a time when he’s trying to change how people see him. He wore a black T-shirt that said “Zuck or nothing” in Latin, which is quite different from his usual gray shirts.

Sometimes, we wonder if fans are more excited about the game or watching Mark play it.

After Zuckerberg’s chat, Potato McWhiskey, a famous Civilization streamer, threw down a challenge on YouTube, saying, “I challenge you, Mark Zuckerberg, to a 1v1 duel in Civilization.” Even the official Civilization account jumped in, saying, “See you in the arena, Zuckerberg.”

Fans are buzzing about the next Civilization game, which will be out on PC and consoles in February 2025. For those who can’t wait, early access for Civilization 7 starts on February 6 for some editions, with the regular release following on February 11.
