Mass Effect Veteran’s Studio Closing After AAA Sci-Fi Game Project

-

Humanoid Origin, a studio started by Casey Hudson, is sadly shutting down. Their announcement on LinkedIn revealed they ran out of money unexpectedly.

The team expressed how sad they are that their cool sci-fi game won’t be released, but they’re more worried about helping their team members find new jobs. They shared, “In our time together, the team achieved incredible progress, and demonstrated that it’s possible to do amazing work while fostering a culture of fun and creativity. We thank them for their talent, courage, and friendship. Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout our journey.”

Back in 2021, Humanoid Origin was introduced to the world. They were working on a sci-fi game described as

Based in Canada, they had offices in Edmonton and Kelowna and even worked with people remotely.

Casey Hudson, who was with BioWare for 16 years until 2014, is most famous for his role in the Mass Effect series. After a stint at Xbox in 2015 working on mixed-reality gadgets, he returned to BioWare in 2017 as general manager, only to leave again in 2020 before starting Humanoid Origin in 2021. It’s a mystery what his next move might be.

Sometimes, we just have to wonder how things could have been different if circumstances were better.

Meanwhile, BioWare recently released Dragon Age: The Veilguard in October. They’re not planning any extra content for it and are now focusing on the next Mass Effect game, which is being developed by some familiar faces from the series (but not Hudson).
