Metaphor: ReFantazio has made waves by selling over a million copies on its first day.
Reports from a Sega press release (translated by Eurogamer) reveal this number covers both digital and physical sales. Studio Zero, the creators, are feeling super grateful to everyone who’s played the game.
Over 60,000 players have been exploring the game on Steam, which is more than any other Atlus game has seen. In contrast, Sega’s other 2024 hits like Persona 3 Reload and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth reached peaks of around 45,000 and 46,000, respectively. Final Fantasy XV and XVI saw even fewer, with peaks at about 29,000 and 27,000.
Fans love when their favorite games do well and get lots of attention.
You can play Metaphor: ReFantazio on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Try out the demo on any platform, and whatever you achieve will carry over to the full game, unlocking achievements as you go. Plus, there’s a discount for the PC version on Fanatical right now.
GameSpot gave it a perfect score, saying, “Metaphor: ReFantazio combines Atlus’ skill in crafting emotionally charged RPGs with brilliant plot twists, a keen sense of adventure, and fantastical idealism to create one of its greatest games yet.”
