Minecraft Movie Trailer: Incredible First Look

-

Warner Bros. just released the first trailer for the Minecraft movie, and it looks awesome.

The film, inspired by Mojang’s super popular game, features a star-studded cast including Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Kate McKinnon, Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Coolidge, Emma Myers, and Jemaine Clement. Over a decade ago, the project was announced, leaving many curious about how Jared Hess (known for Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre) would turn a game without a storyline into a movie. Now, we finally have an idea—check out the trailer below.

Minecraft is famous for its endless possibilities and lack of a set story. Players can create, explore, and build anything they imagine.

Here’s what the official plot for the Minecraft movie says:

“Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival! Four misfits–Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks)–find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.”

Hess said in an interview that when he took the job, he believed there was a “fun, ridiculous movie” to be made out of Minecraft, and in the end “there is,” he said.

Before Hess took over, Rob McElhenney from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia was supposed to direct and even got $150 million for it. But new Warner Bros. management decided to go a different route. Prior to McElhenney, Shawn Levy, known for Deadpool & Wolverine, had a Goonies-style adventure planned, but Mojang didn’t approve.

Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer penned the screenplay, and the movie is slated for release on April 4, 2025.

Filming took place in New Zealand, and leaks showed trees designed to

. The production designer is Grant Major, a New Zealander who won an Oscar for The Lord of the Rings.

Danielle Brooks told Variety that she and Black might do some singing in the film. “You can’t do a movie with Danielle Brooks and Jack Black and not have us do something,” she said.

We can’t wait to see how this turns out!
