Monster Hunter Success Reduces Need for Dino Crisis, Says Resident Evil Creator

-

Shinji Mikami believes that Monster Hunter’s huge success means there’s no need for a new Dino Crisis game.

Talking to Eurogamer, he expressed surprise at how many people wanted a new Dino Crisis. “The awesomeness of dinosaurs and the stuff you can do with dinosaurs, that’s been kind of really nailed down by Monster Hunter in recent years,” he said.

Mikami added that even if he considered making a Dino Crisis remake or new version, he didn’t think there was much room for it now due to Monster Hunter’s popularity. “But yeah, it is surprising,” he remarked.

When Capcom unveiled Exoprimal last year, many fans initially thought it was a Dino Crisis reboot. Although disappointed at first, the game received mostly positive feedback and even scored 7/10 from GameSpot. Interestingly, Mikami has no current ties with Capcom. He left the company years ago to start Tango Gameworks and departed from Tango in 2023.

Monster Hunter: World has achieved remarkable sales of over 25 million units worldwide as of March 2024. The next game in the series, Monster Hunter Wilds, is expected in 2025.

Mikami was the producer behind the original Dino Crisis released in 1999. Now, he’s working at Kamuy, a studio he founded after leaving Tango.

Sometimes we just miss the old games we loved as kids.

Dinosaurs will always be cool!
