The Monster Hunter Wilds beta made a splash with its debut, drawing in a staggering number of players.
Shortly after the beta kicked off, more than 460,000 players were battling it out on Steam, and that’s not even counting those on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. According to SteamDB, a peak of 463,798 players was recorded just hours after it went live at 8 PM PT / 11 PM ET on October 31. The beta will be available until 6:59 PM PT / 9:59 PM ET on Sunday, November 3, meaning numbers could rise even more as the weekend approaches. At present, around 430,000 players are still exploring the game on Steam. This year has been full of new records and milestones for Steam’s user base.

GamesRadar found some players facing monsters that looked like they came straight out of the original PlayStation, all blocky and funny. One interesting feature players noticed is an accessibility option for those who aren’t fans of spiders. If you don’t like the eight-legged creatures, the game can turn them into blobs of slime instead. This arachnophobia mode is a thoughtful addition.
