During The Game Awards, a fresh game titled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was revealed by Naughty Dog, set in a world where space travel has advanced by 1986.
In the brief trailer, we catch a glimpse of the hero battling a gigantic robot with futuristic swords. It’s the first new tale from Neil Druckmann and his team in ages, drawing inspiration from anime favorites like Akira and Cowboy Bebop.
If you’re eager to check out these anime, Cowboy Bebop: The Complete Series is on Blu-ray for just $18, down from $50. Also, the 25th Anniversary Edition is marked down to $28. Meanwhile, you can grab Akira on 4K Blu-ray for $18.44, previously priced at $30.
When speaking with The New York Times about the new game, Druckmann chose to keep most of the game’s secrets under wraps but did share a bit about the heart of the story.
“The story is quite ambitious,” Druckmann said, focusing on “what happens when you put your faith in different institutions.”
Last year, Druckmann hinted that Naughty Dog had its next big hit ready to go, though he knows fans are still buzzing about The Last of Us Part III.
“I know the fans really want The Last of Us: Part III; I hear about it all the time,” Druckmann said at the time. “All I can say is that we’re already into our next project, the decision has already been made. I can’t say what it is.”
For the role of the main character in this cosmic quest, bounty hunter Jordan Mun, Druckmann selected Tati Gabrielle, known for playing villains in Uncharted and appearing in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Kumail Nanjiani will play Colin Graves, a target on Mun’s list. Gabrielle will also appear in The Last of Us Season 2 as Nora, an ally of Abby’s.
“She has this intimidating presence to her,” Druckmann said. “We brought her in for an audition, and she blew us away. It was one of those moments–like when I first saw Ashley Johnson as Ellie.”
Although the trailer didn’t disclose when the game will be available, Druckmann mentioned that Intergalactic marks a return to Naughty Dog’s action-adventure roots. Over the past four years, more than 250 Naughty Dog team members, along with external artists from Druckmann’s network, have been developing Intergalactic.
