Onimusha Way Of The Sword Revives Franchise in 2026

-

Announced at The Game Awards, Onimusha Way of the Sword marks the series’ return after a long pause since 2006.

In the trailer, red flames swirl around ancient Japanese landscapes before merging with the hero. We catch glimpses of intense battles featuring third-person action against creepy supernatural foes, like samurais overtaken by fungi and massive beasts. Near the trailer’s climax, a gigantic boar-like creature is seen walking upright, ready for a showdown.

The Onimusha games are known for mixing historical Japanese tales with spooky elements and exciting hack-and-slash gameplay. While past games focused on the Sengoku period, this new adventure takes place in Kyoto during the early Edo period. The last major release in the series was Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, with only a mobile game and a remaster since then.

Sometimes, we just can’t wait for these epic games to drop.
