Blizzard Entertainment once had plans for a mobile Overwatch game, but nobody knows if it’s still being worked on.
A book called Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment spills the beans about this project while chatting about Walter Kong. In it, Jason Schreier mentions, “Overwatch was led by Walter Kong, who oversaw the release of regular heroes and content for Overwatch 2 as well as new projects, like a mobile version of the franchise.” Officially, Blizzard hasn’t said anything about an Overwatch mobile game yet. Overwatch 2 came out last year, free-to-play on consoles and PC, with cross-platform play. So, maybe a mobile version would be similar, or it could be something else entirely—if it exists at all.
Fans sometimes wonder if games will stay the same or change a lot.
Schreier’s book dives into Blizzard’s 33-year journey and how things might have changed since Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard nearly a year ago. The book also talks about Titan, a game that didn’t make it. It was supposed to be part superhero action, part Sims-like game. Trying to mix these two ideas was one reason it got scrapped. But some superhero parts made their way into Overwatch.
This month, Overwatch 2 is getting cool anime skins from My Hero Academia. Plus, last month, it got some neat perks with Game Pass. Check out GameSpot’s review if you’re curious!
