In Path of Exile 2, one of the early challenges in Act 1 is a quest known as “The Mysterious Shade,” where you need to unlock a Memorial Gate in the Cemetery of the Eternals.
To move forward in this quest, you have to locate two keys that will open the gate, guiding you to the Count’s Grave and helping a man named Lachlann find some peace. Want to know where to find these keys? Check out the steps below.
Unlocking the Memorial Gate in Path of Exile 2
When you enter the Cemetery of the Eternals, the Memorial Gate is located just a bit south of the Waypoint. Though it’s not marked, it’s a prominent gate leading to a path.
The keys are hidden in two different dungeons within the cemetery: “Tomb of the Consort” and “Mausoleum of the Praetor.”
These dungeons are not far from the cemetery’s Waypoint. Here’s a visual to help you spot their exact locations:
The Tomb of the Consort is usually the first dungeon you’ll bump into, situated northeast of the Waypoint. The Mausoleum of the Praetor lies northwest of it, right by a checkpoint.
Finding Keys for the Memorial Gate
To grab the keys, you have to delve into both dungeons and reach their end. Of course, you’ll face many foes, and at the end, there’s a boss waiting for you.
Entering each dungeon progresses the secondary quest “Sorrow Among Stones.” This quest completes when you defeat both bosses and aid Lachlann, who you initially met in the Cemetery of the Eternals.
Inside the Tomb of the Consort, you’ll confront Asinia, the Praetor’s Consort, as the final boss. In the Mausoleum of the Praetor, Draven, the Eternal Praetor, awaits you. Both bosses aren’t too tough, but they do make an appearance in each other’s battles, giving you a duo to contend with.
Once you beat both bosses, a “Key Piece” will drop as a green item. These green items are quest-related and easy to spot on the ground once the boss is down. Collect both key pieces to unlock the Memorial Gate at the Cemetery’s start. The Sorrow Among Stones quest will also update when you have both keys.
With the keys in hand, return to the Memorial Gate, just south of the Waypoint, interact with it, and guide Lachlann through. But beware, your journey isn’t over yet—there’s still another boss fight ahead.
