In Path of Exile 2’s early access, players can choose from six classes, and the Sorceress is one of them.
Sorceress Overview in Path of Exile 2
When you’re a Sorceress, you get to use different kinds of weapons that let you cast cool spells. You don’t need to use an Uncut Skill Gem for these spells. Your weapon choices include wands, staffs, and sceptres. Wands and staffs usually give you elemental spells, while sceptres can help you summon minions to fight for you. The staff you pick is important because it affects the spells you’ll use in your build.
With the Sorceress, you can deal damage using frost, lightning, and fire elements. You can combine these with minions, but it’s a good idea to match your main weapon’s spell with your other Skill Gems. Some Spirit Gems can also help you summon minions, like Raging Spirits, which sends out fire skulls to attack enemies.
The Sorceress mainly relies on Intelligence, so you’ll need high Intelligence for most of your gear. But don’t forget Dexterity, as it helps with spell accuracy and equipping some gear.
Your Sorceress will probably wear light armor that boosts Intelligence, gives you more mana, and enhances your chosen elemental damage. This makes her a “glass cannon,” which means she’s great at attacking but not so good at defending. If you keep getting defeated, you might want to use stronger armor or invest in Strength, though our build should help avoid that.
Best Sorceress Skills in Path of Exile 2
For the best Sorceress build, frost damage is your friend against enemies and bosses. You can mix in some lightning and fire skills, but freezing spells are the key. The Gelid Staff is the top choice, giving you the Freezing Shards spell, which complements your frost skills.
At the start, you won’t have many frost skills, but Ice Nova is good for close-range. As you level up, especially reaching Level 9 Skill Gems, you’ll get more powerful frost spells.
Even though it’s not frost, Ember Fusillade is a handy fire skill for early game, helping clear lots of enemies and dealing big damage to bosses. It’s useful until you unlock better frost skills.
Here’s a list of skills we think work well for the Sorceress:
- Flame Wall
- Ice Nova
- Ember Fusillade
- Frostbolt
- Cold Snap
- Frost Wall
- Flameblast
There’s a nice mix of fire and frost spells. Fire skills like Flame Wall and Ember Fusillade are great early on, while Ice Nova keeps enemies at bay.
As you level up, more frost skills like Frostbolt, Cold Snap, and Frost Wall become available. These will help you through Act 3 on normal difficulty. Later, in Cruel difficulty, you’ll unlock Flameblast, a strong fire skill that uses a lot of mana.
Best Sorceress Support and Spirit Gems
Now that you have your skills, let’s enhance them with Support Gems and find some Spirit Gems to pair with them.
Here’s a list of Support Gems for certain skills and the best Spirit Gems:
Support Gems
- Spell Cascade (Flame/Frost Wall)
- Ignition (Ember Fusillade)
- Scattershot (Frostbolt)
- Glaciation (Frostbolt)
- Magnified Effect (Flame Wall)
- Icicle (Frost Wall)
- Spell Echo (Cast on Freeze)
Spirit Gems
- Cast on Freeze
- Raging Spirits
- Blink
Best Sorceress Passive Skills
When it comes to the Passive Ability skill tree for your Sorceress, there are different paths to take. You can go for a “glass cannon” build focusing on attack power and freezing enemies, or if you’re dying too much, choose defensive buffs to boost evasion, armor, and energy shield regeneration.
We suggest these Passive Abilities for the Sorceress:
- Path of Winter
- Climate Change
- Echoing Frost
- Raw Power
- Open Mind
- Exploit the Elements
- Shattering
Best Sorceress Ascendancy
When your Sorceress reaches a high enough level, you can choose an Ascendancy in Path of Exile 2. The options are Chronomancer and Stormweaver.
We recommend Chronomancer for extra defense. It offers a buff called “Time Freeze,” letting you pause time briefly to escape danger. But if you prefer offense, Stormweaver is your choice, with abilities like Heart of the Storm, Arcane Surge, and Elemental Storm that boost damage.
That wraps up our Sorceress build guide in Path of Exile 2. If you want to try another class, consider the Monk for a balanced playstyle.
