Path of Exile 2: Unlock Salvage Bench & Salvage Items Guide

-

In Path of Exile 2, treasure is everywhere, and you’ll find yourself zipping back to town often to sell your finds.

While saving up gold is wise, you might also want to recycle some gear for special items, but first, you need to unlock this option.

If you’re curious about snagging things like Blacksmith’s Whetstones and Armorer’s Scraps in the game, head over to the salvage bench. To do this, you’ll need to tackle the ‘Finding the Forge’ quest, which will help you clear out your backpack.

How to Finish ‘Finding the Forge’ in Path of Exile 2

To start salvaging items, you’ve got to complete the ‘Finding the Forge’ quest in Act 1, right after dealing with ‘Secrets in the Dark’. Chat with Renly at the base camp, and he’ll send you on a mission to locate his tools in Ogham Village.

As you follow the main quest, particularly ‘The Trail of Corruption’, you’ll eventually hit Ogham Village, so don’t stress about skipping it. You can always check the map and hover over nodes to see where you haven’t been yet. And if you’re stuck, we’ve got a handy guide to help you pinpoint the village’s exact spot.

When you arrive in Ogham Village, it’s exploration time to find Renly’s tools. Since the map layout changes every time, there isn’t a fixed route to the forge, but keep an eye out for a cluster of houses with a narrow path between them. If there’s a checkpoint at the entrance, you’re in the right place.

Enter Renly’s Workshop, defeat the enemies inside, and grab the tools from the table. There’s no big boss here, just a quick fight. Then, head back to Renly as soon as you can. Remember, using town portals doesn’t cost anything, so feel free to make a speedy return trip. Just chat with Renly to wrap up the quest.

How to Salvage Items in Path of Exile 2

Once ‘Finding the Forge’ is done, Renly sets up a salvage bench for you at the base camp. Anytime you need it, it’s there to turn unwanted items into useful materials. But be careful! Salvaging is forever, so don’t accidentally destroy something you might need later. If your inventory is bursting, use the stash nearby.

Remember, only rare armor, weapons, and socketed items can be salvaged. Doing this will give you Blacksmith’s Whetstones, Artificer’s Shards, and Armorer’s Scraps.

Unlike the first game, selling items to NPCs in Path of Exile 2 generally earns you gold. Still, gather everything, make frequent town trips, and decide whether to sell or salvage. It might seem slow, but making this a habit early on is smart.

Fans always want to master the game quickly.
