This autumn, Microsoft has a surprising lineup of PC-only games like World of Warcraft: The War Within, Ara: History Untold, and Towerborne, which will later come to Xbox Series X|S.
Phil Spencer, Microsoft’s gaming head honcho, called this a rare situation, noting, “This is historical,” in a chat with Game File. He emphasized their goal of making games playable on all screens, including Xbox consoles, PCs, and the cloud. The aim is for games to be “Play Anywhere,” even if some odd ones slip through the cracks.
World of Warcraft might stay off Xbox, but Spencer’s eager to share certain Microsoft games with PlayStation users. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is a biggie here, and fresh titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will also hit PS5 after first showing up on Xbox and PC. His dream is for players to own games no matter where they play.
People like the idea of owning a game and playing it anywhere.
Spencer explained, “We want to get to the point where, when you buy, whether you’re buying on cloud–which we’re getting ready to introduce–buying on PC and buying on console, you own it across all of the Xbox ecosystem.”
