It looks like a follow-up to Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown isn’t happening anytime soon.
Ubisoft has decided to reassign most of the developers who crafted this metroidvania adventure to different tasks within the company. In a statement to GameSpot, senior producer Abdelhak Elguess shared that the team behind the game has dispersed, saying, “Most of the team members who worked on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown have shifted to other projects that will benefit from their expertise.” He added, “We know players have a love for this brand, and Ubisoft is excited to bring more Prince of Persia experiences in the future.”
The game, which hit the shelves in January, was quite popular and even got some new story content called Mask of Darkness just last month. According to Elguess, the game has reached “the end of its post-launch roadmap with three free content updates and one DLC.”
A standout feature in The Lost Crown is the Memory Shards, allowing players to snap a picture and pin it on the map, making backtracking with new powers a breeze. This neat trick is why it’s among the 31 top Steam Deck games today.
Interestingly, this isn’t the only Prince of Persia game we’ve seen this year. Back in May, Ubisoft released The Rogue Prince of Persia, developed by Evil Empire. However, it’s still in Early Access on Steam, with no console version available yet.
