Sony is gearing up to release the $700 PS5 Pro later this year.
If that sounds too expensive, there’s good news: refurbished PS5s will soon be available at a lower price. On the PlayStation Direct site, you can find a new “Certified Refurbished” section. Prices start at $350 for the Digital Edition and $400 for the version with a disc drive.
PushSquare reports that these PS5 consoles are “as good as new.” They’ve been thoroughly cleaned and come with a 12-month warranty. While they might have minor cosmetic flaws, they’re still in great shape. These refurbished units are typically returns, which means they’re pre-owned but inspected and fixed up by Sony. Shipping dates will be announced soon.
For people looking for a cheaper current-gen console, this is a solid option. The PS5’s price in the US hasn’t dropped, and in some places, it’s even gone up. Sony blames global economic issues like the COVID-19 pandemic for these price hikes. Even the DualSense controllers have gone up by $5, despite the PS5 being out for nearly four years now.
The PS5 Pro, set to launch on November 7 for $700, will not include a disc drive. If you want to play physical games or movies, you’ll need to buy the $80 disc-drive attachment separately.
Fans think this is a smart move by Sony.
