Remedy’s AI Usage Policy in Games Explained

-

AI is becoming a big deal in many fields, including video games, and while its future role is uncertain, Remedy has shared how they’ve been using it for quite some time.

Mika Vehkala, who is the chief technology officer, explained during a financial talk that AI is a big subject. He said, “AI is a very wide topic.” Remedy has explored AI tools and techniques long before they became trendy. They keep exploring new possibilities with their partners and have started using some popular tools that fit their current needs.

Mika Vehkala and Markus Mäki, the chief product officer, made it clear that they aren’t using AI to take over creative jobs or replace actors. Instead, it’s there to help with the boring stuff, like sorting out motion-capture data. They even have a person at Remedy whose whole job is to keep up with new tech, but they’re not rushing into any decisions.

Fans sometimes wonder if all this technology is really needed.

In October, Remedy showed a sneak peek of FBC: Firebreak, a new game coming out in 2025 that’s related to Control. There’s also a hint about Alan Wake 2’s DLC leading to Control 2, though nobody knows when that will be available. AI might play a role in these games too, but it’s still a mystery.
