At The Game Awards, Milestone gave fans a sneak peek of their exciting new venture—a revival of the beloved arcade racing game, Screamer.
The teaser, though it kept gameplay under wraps, hinted at a fresh, moody twist, setting the action in a neon-lit metropolis reminiscent of vintage anime worlds. According to Milestone, they aim to mix Screamer’s classic fast-paced driving with a rich story filled with various character journeys, and they’re planning to launch it in 2026 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Heavily inspired by ’80s and ’90s anime and manga, Screamer’s narrative will be brought to life with animated scenes created with Polygon Pictures, the studio famous for work on shows like Tron: Uprising and Pacific Rim: The Black.

Milestone has also roped in Troy Baker, known for The Last of Us, to voice a key character, and the storyline will explore deep themes like human spirit, revenge, love, and greed with a sci-fi edge.
Back in 1995, the first Screamer wowed players with its arcade thrills and hefty system demands. Three more games followed—Screamer 2, Screamer Rally, and Screamer 4×4—all crafted by Milestone. If you were a ’90s kid without a PlayStation for Ridge Racer or a Sega Saturn for Daytona USA, Screamer was the go-to racing game for PC fans back then.
Sometimes, people just love a good comeback story.
