Space Marine 2 Can Succeed Without Huge Sales

-

Last month, the game Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 launched and quickly became the most-played Warhammer game on Steam, gaining over 2 million players in its first days.

Tim Willits from Saber Interactive shared that the game’s success doesn’t depend on hitting huge sales figures. “We don’t need to sell 4 million units to make it [Space Marine 2] a success,” he told IGN. He questioned why selling less than 5 million copies is often seen as a failure in the gaming industry, especially for North American developers.

Unlike some other high-profile games that didn’t meet sales expectations—like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League or Star Wars Outlaws—Space Marine 2 managed to stay successful by sticking to its core ideas. Willits said they focused on what makes the game fun instead of adding too many unnecessary features. He emphasized how important it is for a game to feel right every second you play it. “We have a core belief that what you do every second and what happens when you push these buttons and that core gameplay loop is so critical,” he explained.

Fans sometimes just want games to be simple and fun.

Tim Sweeney from Epic Games mentioned that the gaming world is changing, with big-budget games not selling as well as expected. He believes players are more interested in big games that let them play with friends. Yet, some single-player games like Elden Ring and Space Marine 2 are doing great, even without focusing on multiplayer.

In more news about Space Marine 2, new updates are bringing cool customization options and important fixes to the game.
