In the second mission of Starfield Shattered Space, called The Promised, Broken, you find yourself in the sacred city of Dazra on Va’ruun’kai after navigating through The Oracle.
After hearing Anasko Va’ruun’s words and gaining access to the city, you walk the Serpent’s Path with Inaza Kaisir, learning about House Va’ruun’s history. At the path’s end, you must choose between four Effigies to honor the house.
How to Navigate the Serpent’s Path in Starfield
Before reaching the Effigies, you need to complete the Serpent’s Path, which includes several checkpoints offering choices to demonstrate your dedication.
Inaza Kaisir explains House Va’ruun’s origins and the Great Serpent deity along the path. At various points, you prove your loyalty through different actions.
First, there’s a candle-lit memorial where you can blow out a candle. This is optional, like all other choices.
Next, at the second checkpoint, you can toss a possession into a brazier or skip this step.
The third checkpoint involves a leap of faith across a gap with a waterfall. You can jump or take metal stairs around the gap.
The fourth checkpoint offers a chance to step into poisoned water, which causes minor harm. The fifth checkpoint asks you to decide the fate of a Groat. Sacrificing it shows loyalty, but you can let it live by simply moving on.
Choosing an Effigy in Starfield
Eventually, you’ll come to a spot with four Effigies: Obedience, Strength, Devotion, and Perseverance. You need to pick two, place them on altars, and exit the Serpent’s Path.
Your choice determines your House Va’ruun title. Here are the combinations and titles:
- Devotion + Obedience = Reverant
- Devotion + Strength = Harbinger
- Devotion + Perseverance = Diviner
- Obedience + Strength = Armiger
- Obedience + Perseverance = Adherent
- Strength + Perseverance = Vindicator
The title doesn’t majorly impact gameplay, but it’s a nice touch for the DLC. Once you place the Effigies and exit the path, talk to Inaza Kaisir to complete The Promised, Broken mission.
