State of Decay 2 Updates End as Dev Focuses on State of Decay 3

-

After six years of non-stop updates, State of Decay 2 is finally getting its last batch of new content as Undead Labs shifts its attention to State of Decay 3.

The developers shared that they have rolled out nearly 40 updates for State of Decay 2 over the years, adding new modes, maps, stories, characters, weapons, and cosmetics. They stated that they’ve “poured our hearts into making the experience the best it can be,” but now it’s time to move forward.

“Our ambition is to make the greatest zombie survival sim in the franchise, and to do so, we’ll be shifting our focus and resources to making the upcoming third installment, State of Decay 3,” said Undead Labs.

The final update for State of Decay 2, which is the 38th, is set for later this year. This update will fix long-standing issues and add quality-of-life improvements. It will also unlock all seasonal content permanently for everyone.

We, as fans, are excited about what’s next.

Even though there won’t be any more updates, State of Decay 2 will still be playable for those who own it or access it via Xbox Game Pass. Your saved games will be safe, but bug reports will no longer be accepted since the support system for the game is closing.

Curious about when State of Decay 3 will launch? Well, Undead Labs isn’t spilling the beans just yet, promising more details “at a later time.”

“Thank you for your continued support and for being the greatest gaming community there is. We’re excited to devote ourselves to making the next game even better,” expressed the studio.

Though announced in 2020, not much has been revealed about State of Decay 3. Check out the cinematic trailer above for a sneak peek.
