Fandom, the parent company of GameSpot, just shared its sixth annual Inside Fandom study.
One of the highlights, titled The Power of Me Time, shows that over half of people, 54%, spend their free moments on gaming and entertainment weekly. It also found that 80% are super passionate about games or watching TV/movies, even more than music (75%), cooking (52%), sports (44%), and traveling (38%).
The research also reveals that gaming brings good vibes. People feel more engaged, accomplished, and concentrated after playing. In contrast, watching TV or movies makes them feel calm, happy, and relaxed. On the other hand, sports can make people feel frustrated and anxious.
For gaming, the study concluded, “These positive emotional experiences explain why entertainment and gaming continue to hold such a prominent place in consumers’ lives, offering a welcome escape and a chance to recharge.”
The study also shows that fans of TV, movies, and games love diving deeper into their favorite stuff online. Around 52% read or post about their interests, while 50% hunt for fan-made content on YouTube and TikTok.
We all love sharing our thoughts! According to the study, 43% enjoy chatting about their favorite shows, movies, or games with friends and family. Meanwhile, 27% search for more details about their favorite franchises online, like behind-the-scenes info or character updates. Plus, 26% tune into podcasts about their favorite TV, movie, and gaming content.
This survey gathered opinions from 4,000 people, backed up by data from Fandom’s 350 million monthly users.
