Private Division and Weta Workshop have revealed the launch date for their new Hobbit-themed game, Tales Of The Shire.
Initially delayed from 2024, this game is now set to release on March 25, 2025. Unlike other Lord Of The Rings games filled with epic battles, Tales Of The Shire will focus on the peaceful life in The Shire, letting players create their own Hobbit characters. They will live in cozy hobbit holes in Bywater, becoming part of the Hobbit community.
In the game, you’ll gather ingredients for meals (yes, even second breakfast), fish, garden, and decorate your home. Bywater will be bustling with other Hobbit NPCs who will give you quests, trade items, and share tips on fitting in with the community.
Weta Workshop, known more for its movie effects work, like in Alien: Romulus, Dune Part Two, and The Rings Of Power, is stepping into the gaming world with Tales Of The Shire, marking its first game release since the division’s creation in 2014.
Hobbit Day, part of the annual Tolkien Week, celebrates J.R.R. Tolkien’s works and specifically falls on September 22, the birthday of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, two of the most iconic Hobbits.
Tales Of The Shire will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and mobile devices through Netflix Games starting March 25, 2025.
