Travis Kelce, yeah, that guy. He’s juggling a lot. Imagine, dating Taylor Swift and prepping for the Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs. But wait, there’s more. He’s got this idea about bringing back the Backyard Sports franchise. His brother, Jason Kelce, is in on it too.
On their podcast, New Heights, Travis tossed a question to Jason. “Remember Backyard Football on the PC?” It was a throwback to their childhood, part of a franchise kicking off in 1997 with Backyard Baseball. Jason, who might’ve hung up his helmet as the center for the Philadelphia Eagles, didn’t just remember. He was plotting a comeback.
“I’m kinda hesitant to spill the beans,” Jason confessed. He’d been snooping around, trying to find who owns the rights to Backyard Football and Baseball. “I’m thinking of buying it. Reviving it. It was epic, wasn’t it?”
Backyard Football hit the scene in 1999, featuring Steve Young on the cover. Fast forward to 2010, and that’s the last we saw of the football series in the Backyard franchise.
But here’s where it gets interesting. Jason’s got this vision. Bringing the game to smartphones. “Imagine, playing Backyard Football on your phone,” he mused to Travis. Travis was all in. The game’s simplicity was its charm.
Ironically, the franchise did venture into smartphones. Backyard Sports: Baseball 2015 and Backyard Sports: Basketball 2015 made their debuts. But football? That’s the untouched dream the Kelce brothers are chasing.
So, amidst Super Bowl chaos and pop star dating drama, the Kelces are plotting. They’re thinking about a revival, a return to simpler times with a modern twist. Who knows? Maybe they’ll pull it off.
