Tencent’s New Game Resembles Horizon Zero Dawn

-

Tencent has introduced a new game named Light of Motiram, and its trailer is a feast for the eyes.

The game unfolds in a world where ancient vibes meet futuristic tech, and players need to craft stuff, keep an eye on their survival stats, and fight off bizarre robot animals called Mechanimals. People can’t help but see echoes of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West in its style. The landscapes, the angular robotic creatures, and even the sneaky tall grass seem to nod to the Horizon series, though other inspirations are mixed in, too.

In both the cinematic trailer and the gameplay videos, a tiny floating robot with a mechanical “eye” accompanies the player. These flying helpers are strikingly similar to Destiny’s Ghosts, performing tasks like scanning surroundings, although they don’t bring players back to life like Ghosts do.

A mysterious dream mentioned in the trailer talks about a kind god doing not-so-kind things, asking, “Why can’t human beings kill god?”

This question doesn’t find answers in the game’s battles, which feel like hunting adventures straight out of Monster Hunter. Players can tame these robotic beasts to fight alongside them. Also, the official website hints at co-op and online play, but it’s a bit foggy how multiplayer fits with crafting and staying alive in the game.

We are curious to see how these elements will blend together in the final release.

Tencent hasn’t shared when exactly Light of Motiram will come out, but you can already wishlist it on Steam. It will be available on mobile devices, PC, and PlayStation 5.
