In the coming year, it’ll be a decade since The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt took the gaming world by storm, enchanting players across two generations of consoles.
Back when The Witcher 3 was still being crafted, CD Projekt Red was already laying the groundwork for Cyberpunk 2077, their futuristic brainchild. Interestingly, a recent report unveils that Geralt of Rivia nearly found himself wandering through Night City in a special quest, bridging both game worlds. This nugget of information comes from a fresh eBook series titled What Lies Unseen, authored by modders and data miners Crygreg, Ferroxius, and Glassfish. Within its first volume, it is revealed that a quest named Through Time and Space almost had Geralt and his companion Avallac’h venturing into Cyberpunk 2077’s universe, searching for clues about the Wild Hunt.
In one of the unearthed dialogue snippets, Avallac’h paints a picture of Night City as “technologically advanced, but broken… dying.” Geralt muses if he’s glimpsing the afterlife, only to be overwhelmed by the city’s foul odor and clamor. Intriguingly, during his brief stay, Geralt could have impacted the city by giving some coins to a beggar. Unbeknownst to him, these coins were meant to transform the beggar into a rich figure in Cyberpunk 2077.
Even though this crossover quest never made it to the final cut, Geralt has ventured beyond his own world, featuring in games like Monster Hunter: World and Soulcalibur 6. Fans sometimes wonder what kind of adventures Geralt will embark on next. It’s likely he’ll return in The Witcher 4, which has just kicked off its full-scale development. While we might have to wait a few years for the sequel, Witcher fans can look forward to a physical Gwent card game coming out in 2025.
