Epic Games Store’s exclusives didn’t really make a big splash, according to Tim Sweeney.
Talking to reporters recently, Sweeney shared that while they poured a lot of money into exclusives, only a few paid off. “We spent a lot of money on exclusives,” he said. “A few of them worked extremely well. A lot of them were not good investments, but the free games program has been just magical.” For more details, check out the PC Gamer report.
Sweeney didn’t specify which exclusives did well. Alan Wake 2 is a recent big exclusive that didn’t cover its development costs. This game made it to GameSpot’s top 10 games of 2023 list. Other notable exclusives include Metro Exodus, Outer Wilds, and Hades.
We think it’s really cool how Epic is shaking things up with free games.
Currently, you can get Death’s Gambit: Afterlife and World of Warships for free on the Epic Games Store, with The Callisto Protocol coming soon. Last year alone, they gave away 86 free games and users claimed millions of them!
