Tony Hawk Confirms Pro Skater Series Continuation

-

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games were a massive hit on the PlayStation 1 and 2, and Tony Hawk himself recently announced more are coming.

Tony Hawk shared on

" data-target="true" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">Instagram that the first game came out 25 years ago. He said, “My intention and expectation for the game was mostly for the enjoyment of skateboarders. I had no idea it would transcend a niche market to become a massive success and–as some have argued–change the course of skateboarding’s popularity (and possibly even skate trick evolution).” The game’s success even inspired other sports games like the SSX snowboarding series and Shaun White’s snowboarding games.

Hawk also talked about how the game changed his life and how it introduced him to new fans. “It is a big reason that I get to ride my skateboard for a living to this very day. And most of the featured characters are still out there ripping and representing skateboarding’s diversity in the best ways possible.”

We all love how these games bring back memories.

In the same post, Hawk shared some footage of him doing tricks for the game’s development. He said, “I poured myself into every aspect of this project because I believed we were creating something exceptional, and I am immensely proud of the series that followed…and their soundtracks. Thanks to Activision, Neversoft (RIP) and all of you that played THPS in those formative years. I’m not supposed to tease anything else about the future of the series, but there will be a future.”

Back in 2020, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 were given a fresh look with modern graphics and released as one game. This was the first big release since Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 in 2015. The series also includes other games like Underground, Shred, Ride, American Wasteland, Project 8, Motion, and Downhill Jam.

There were rumors about a remake of Pro Skater 3 and 4 by Vicarious Visions, but those plans were canceled. The developer shifted focus to supporting Call of Duty and later merged with Blizzard in 2022, becoming Blizzard Albany.
