Ubisoft Developing Animal Crossing-Style Game

-

Ubisoft is creating a new game called Alterra, which is inspired by Animal Crossing.

The game takes place on an island where players build homes among friendly NPCs known as “Matterlings.” Adventurous players can explore different environments, meet various Matterlings, and gather materials scattered across the island. According to Insider Gaming, the game will have a world made of voxels, similar to Minecraft’s blocky style. Players will also get to build and craft using materials they collect, as Alterra evolved from another voxel project that got scrapped.

Insider Gaming has reportedly seen some images showing the Matterlings. These characters have a look similar to Funko Pops, with big heads but in voxel form. Some of these Matterlings might look like mythical dragons, while others could resemble real animals such as birds or polar bears.

It’s said that Ubisoft Montreal is the team behind Alterra. Patrick Redding, who was a key figure for Gotham Knights, is steering the creative direction. Meanwhile, Fabien Lhéraud, with over two decades at Ubisoft in various roles, is taking charge as the lead producer. They’ve apparently been working on this game for a year and a half, though it still seems to be far from finished.

Fans can’t wait to see how this game turns out!
