Ubisoft is trying something new with the upcoming Far Cry games.
As shared by Insider Gaming, they’re working on two games: one called Blackbird and another spin-off named Maverick. Instead of using the Dunia engine, which is usual for them, they’re switching to Snowdrop, the same one used in The Division.
In Maverick, players find themselves in Alaska battling not only other people but also animals and harsh weather. Blackbird, on the other hand, tells the tale of a hero trying to save his family from a cult. The twist? You’ve got just 24 real-world hours (or 72 in-game hours) to do it, with the clock ticking on your character’s wristwatch.
The way characters move in both games—like sprinting, sliding, and vaulting—is similar because they were once part of the same project called Talisker. However, Ubisoft is facing some delays and now plans to release them in 2026 instead of 2025.
Sometimes, people wonder if companies will ever stop changing engines so often.
Lately, Ubisoft has been facing challenges. The Guillemot family is trying to keep control of the company while considering offers from big names like Tencent. Plus, they’ve decided to close their Call of Duty rival, XDefiant, by June 2025 but are still focusing on live-service games.
