Ubisoft has unveiled a fresh Year One roadmap for XDefiant, its free-to-play shooter, detailing important updates and new additions.
In a blog post, Ubisoft tackled issues with the game’s hit registration, explaining that it currently sends packets twice between players, while the norm is four times. To achieve this, the team needs to shrink the packet sizes. Although no exact date was mentioned, the goal is to have notable improvements by Season 2’s end.
The post also denies that XDefiant is struggling, despite claims from Insider Gaming about dwindling player numbers and potential shutdown risks if Season 3 doesn’t perform well. Ubisoft assures fans that “no, the game is absolutely not dying,” emphasizing that enhancing the player experience remains a top priority.
The updated roadmap highlights that every season will bring three new maps, three new guns, and a new faction, alongside changes in progression and quality of life. Season 2 will see improvements in player collision, footstep audio, event challenges, and battle pass progression.
Executive producer Mark Rubin mentioned on
that the team is still working on free-for-all mode, with an updated ETA coming soon.
that updates for later seasons are actively in progress, such as the prestige system for Season 3.
Season 2 of XDefiant will be unveiled on September 18, introducing the Highwaymen faction and new weapons. Ubisoft has faced layoffs recently, adding to the substantial job losses in the gaming industry this year.
