Ubisoft Reverses Steam Policy, Launches New Games Day One

-

This week, Ubisoft’s financial news hasn’t been great for investors.

Star Wars Outlaws didn’t sell well, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows is delayed until 2025, but there’s a silver lining: Ubisoft is bringing both games to Steam. After changing their mind, they decided to release these and other new games on Steam from day one.

Back in 2019, Chris Early from Ubisoft talked about why they left Steam. “It’s unrealistic, the current business model they have,” he said. “It doesn’t reflect where the world is today in terms of game distribution.”

Instead, Ubisoft sold their games on their own store and the Epic Games Store, which takes a smaller cut of sales than Steam. Now, it seems Ubisoft thinks they can sell more by using Steam’s bigger audience.

We think this change might really help Ubisoft.

Star Wars Outlaws will be on Steam starting November 21, and Assassin’s Creed Shadow will be available on Steam and consoles on February 14, 2025.
