Exciting changes are on the horizon for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, as Focus Entertainment shared in a recent Q&A.
Players who love to personalize their Space Marines can look forward to more customization options, like changing faces for those who prefer helmetless characters.
“Not a quick fix, but we will add an option to change your Marine’s face,” Focus said.
In future updates, players will also be able to tweak other parts of the armor such as decals, hands, and facemasks. More color choices from various Space Marine chapters will be available too. Focus is also considering letting players customize their AI squadmates.
Some fans have been asking for class-restricted cosmetics like cloaks and tabards for all classes, but Focus explained these items help identify classes in combat and won’t be made available to all. Customizing the Battlebarge or Thunderhawk isn’t on the list of priorities either, as the art team is busy creating new maps. Chaos Space Marines in PvP mode have lore restrictions that limit customization, though the team wants to expand these options even if they won’t be as flexible as the Loyalist ones.
Fans, we appreciate all these thoughtful updates.
Gameplay tweaks are coming too. The Veteran campaign difficulty will be adjusted to be “more fair,” and AI squadmates in single-player mode will be made more active in future patches. In PvE Operations mode, enemies at higher difficulties will be less “bullet spongy,” making weapons like Bolt Rifles feel more effective.
“That’s the core issue, rather than the Bolters themselves,” Focus said. “For now, we are testing some tweaks in difficulty to make the enemies have less health but keep the engaging difficulty.”
Improving matchmaking connectivity is a top priority, with a big patch coming soon along with new content. Specific improvements for both PvE and PvP matchmaking are also in the works. The team is working on making sure players with the same class won’t be matched together in Operations mode and is considering removing class restrictions for private lobbies. For PvP, they’re “looking into” rebalancing teams after matches.
The Q&A also explained why there won’t be a FoV slider or the ability to swap shoulders when firing. Players won’t be invulnerable during cinematic gun-strike attacks either. Check out the full Q&A for more details.
Focus has planned a content roadmap for Space Marine 2 stretching into 2025. Season 2, coming later this year, will bring new PvE missions, a new enemy, weapon, and difficulty. Updates in 2025 will add more PvP modes, maps, an expansion to the Battlebarge, and even a horde mode in the distant future.
Space Marine 2 became the most-played Warhammer game ever on Steam shortly after its release. In GameSpot’s review, the sequel was praised as “a more than worthy successor to the 2011 original,” with “brutally gory action” that “brings the tabletop game to life in all its grimdark splendor.”
