Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 Ending Tweak & Lore Implications

-

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 got a new update with exciting changes and improvements, but there’s one tiny tweak at the end of the game that’s making fans talk.

Spoilers for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2’s ending ahead.

At the climax of Space Marine 2’s story, Lieutenant Titus and his team are fighting Chaos in the Immaterium. In the final cutscene, Titus tries to destroy a Chaos artifact and almost gets overwhelmed by Warp forces. A voice that used to be attributed to Marneus Calgar says, “Rise, son of Gulliman,” helping Titus to destroy the artifact.

But now, that voice isn’t Calgar anymore. According to the patch notes, the voice was wrongly assigned, and with no new name given, fans are guessing it might be the Emperor of Mankind using his psychic powers to speak to Titus.

This is a big deal because the Emperor, who has been nearly dead and on life support for 10,000 years, usually doesn’t directly influence events in the Warhammer 40K universe. Fans now think Big E might be behind Titus’s strength against the Warp, not just in Space Marine 2 but also in the original Space Marine game.

Sometimes, we just love to speculate about these mysteries.

Games Workshop, the franchise owner, probably won’t confirm anything. Space Marine 2’s creative director, Oliver Hollis-Leick, hinted in a

that it “could be from the Emperor, but it’s meant to be open to interpretation.”

“It could be in Titus’s mind, could be Calgar, or it could be the Emperor (though GW might disagree on that),” Hollis-Leick said. “I know who I meant it to be when I wrote it but I’ll keep that to myself ;).”

Saber is taking a break after the release of Space Marine 2, which sold over 2 million copies, but they’re already planning possible story DLC or even Space Marine 3.

In GameSpot’s review of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, the sequel was praised as a “worthy successor to the original” that brings the grimdark universe of Games Workshop to life.
