Why Guerrilla Left Killzone for Horizon Development

-

In over ten years, there hasn’t been a new Killzone game, and according to Roy Postma from Guerrilla Games, we shouldn’t hold our breath for one soon.

Roy Postma shared with The Washington Post that the team needed a change after releasing Killzone: Shadow Fall in 2013. They felt it was time to try something different, which led them to create Horizon Zero Dawn. Postma expressed, “We were done with it as a team. As a studio, we needed to refresh the palette. It was, by choice, the opposite of Killzone.”

Now, this shift has brought us Lego Horizon Adventures, set to launch on November 14 for PC, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. Postma, who has been with Guerrilla for 24 years, believes the story’s themes of friendship and finding one’s place are things everyone can relate to.

Fans sometimes wish for old favorites to come back, but we also enjoy new adventures.

Last month’s news hinted that Guerrilla’s focus is on Horizon Online, which means a third single-player Horizon game is far in the future, reinforcing the idea that Killzone won’t be revisited soon.

Killzone isn’t the only beloved series left behind; Resistance is another shooter fans think should make a comeback on the PS5. If you’re curious about the last Killzone game, GameSpot has a review of Killzone: Shadow Fall, which was a PS4 launch title.
