Why Spec Ops: The Line Was Removed: Director Explains Delisting Reason

-

So, here’s the scoop. 2K’s Spec Ops: The Line has kinda vanished from all the digital shops recently. And yeah, the folks behind it have finally spilled the beans on why.

Turns out, it’s all about some partnership licenses expiring. But hey, if you’ve already grabbed the game, no sweat. You can still download and play without a hitch. 2K’s even thrown in a thank you note to the players for sticking around. They’re hinting at more goodies coming our way, which, let’s be honest, is kinda exciting.

Oh, and about the size thing? 640 × 360480 × 270. Random, I know. But, if you’re trying to catch some videos, make sure your browser’s up to snuff with HTML5. Because, apparently, some formats just don’t make the cut.

And, uh, there’s this age gate thingy. You know the drill. Enter your birthdate to watch the video. It’s all about keeping things on the up and up with GameSpot’s rules and privacy stuff.

Now, onto the juicy bits. Initially, the game’s devs were scratching their heads, totally clueless about why the game got the boot from online stores. Cory Davis, the director, was pretty bummed out. Said it was a tough pill to swallow for everyone involved, not just him. But, he’s not throwing in the towel on Spec Ops: The Line just yet.

This game first hit the shelves back in 2012, landing on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Critics were all over its story and the gritty take on the horrors of war. Despite that, it wasn’t exactly a hit in the sales department. So, if you’re holding your breath for a sequel, well, don’t.

GameSpot had their say on it too. They reckon that while Spec Ops tried to be more than your run-of-the-mill third-person shooter by tackling some heavy questions, it kinda stumbled on the execution. Still, it had its moments that made you think, even if it didn’t always hit the mark.

And that’s the lowdown. A bit of a rollercoaster, huh?
