At The Game Awards, folks finally got a sneak peek at The Witcher 4, the eagerly awaited game following The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from way back in 2015.
Sebastian Kalemba, the director of The Witcher 4, shared with IGN that the messy launch of Cyberpunk 2077 taught CD Projekt Red some valuable lessons about making games. “The way we produce right now has changed in a very good way,” he said. “We are very mindfully defining the stages of the production. We are very mindfully trying to scope it, making sure that the foundation is there. I already see that it’s helping us to make sure that whatever we create right now is super coherent across the board. This way makes us feel that we control this super complex environment more than we used to, and that also makes everyone feel more secure when it comes to developing generally on a daily basis.”
These days, Kalemba and Małgorzata Mitręga, the executive producer, are making sure the team talks to each other better and doesn’t stress out like they did during the making of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3.
Sometimes, fans just want games to be as perfect as they dream.
The Witcher 4 had been in pre-development for a couple of years before they got more than 400 developers working full-time on it. And guess what? They’re not planning to replace people with AI! They say this new game will be even “bigger and better” than the last two.
