Microsoft is shutting down the Xbox Ambassadors program after running it for 13 years.
In a statement, they expressed gratitude to fans for their long-term support but mentioned that they need to adjust to “the needs of our global community.” The program will officially close after the current season wraps up in mid-October.
One reason for ending the program is that players are finding more benefits in other areas like the Xbox Insider program, Fanfest, and the Xbox Rewards program.
“Thanks to the work of this group, the chance for players to experience the joy of gaming is more global and inclusive than ever–and we believe that now is the right moment to bring the learnings and values of the Ambassador community into all of our player engagement programs,” Microsoft said.
Fans, it feels like the end of an era.
Seasonal Ambassador quests will be phased out, with resources redirected to the Xbox Rewards and Xbox Research programs. More details will come soon.
Microsoft said, “You will also have a new, more global way to share feedback directly with us through Xbox Research, providing the chance to receive more early access to new games and features, and help us improve the Xbox experience for everyone.”
The Xbox Ambassador Champions system is also changing into Xbox Community Champions.
“We recognize that this evolution of the program may feel like a loss for some of you, but our work in maintaining an inclusive community of thoughtful players continues in new and expanded ways,” Microsoft added. “We are incredibly proud of your impact and through your continued engagement, we will together continue to make Xbox the most fun place for everyone to play.”
The final shutdown date for the Xbox Ambassadors program is October 15, which is also the deadline for members to claim any outstanding rewards. Microsoft plans to give a “special thank you” to those who have been active during the latest season, though details are still unclear.
Until October 15, Microsoft will hold weekly sweepstakes so Ambassadors can use their remaining tickets. The badge given to members will get a “legacy” design update in the future.
Microsoft has recently made several cuts and changes to the Xbox division, including laying off over 2,500 employees since the start of 2024.
