Phil Spencer recently explained why Avowed was postponed, and it wasn’t due to typical game issues.
Instead of the usual glitches or bugs, the delay is because the holiday season is jam-packed with games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Diablo 4: Vessel of Hate, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, along with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. While talking to Game File (via VGC), Phil said they wanted to give Avowed a special spotlight next year by moving it to February.
“We didn’t move it because Obsidian needed the time,” Spencer stated. “They’ll use the time.”
Planning out the release schedule was done with help from Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty and the Game Pass team. “We said, ‘OK, let’s make sure we pace this out a little better.’”
The new date for Avowed’s release on PC and Xbox Series X|S is February 18, 2025. It’s set to be a busy month, with Civilization VII and Monster Hunter Wilds also coming out.
Earlier this year, Obsidian shared that Avowed would run at 30fps on Xbox Series X, promising “juicier visuals.” Players can expect multiple endings, possibly in double digits. GameSpot spent an hour with the RPG in August and thought Avowed felt like Skyrim mixed with Annihilation.
Sometimes, we just have to wait a little longer for something great.
