Microsoft has revealed a cool new feature for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, allowing them to stream certain games they own on Xbox consoles, with a wider rollout expected by 2025.
Right now, if you’re part of the Xbox Insiders program, especially in the Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha rings, you can test out this feature. Joining the Xbox Insider program is easy and free; just sign up and you’re in. Previously, in November, Microsoft shared that Game Pass Ultimate members could stream some games they own on devices like smartphones, PCs, or tablets across 28 different countries. But now, it’s coming to Xbox consoles too.
This feature, called “Stream your own game,” lets you play games you bought that aren’t on Game Pass. Some of the titles you can stream include Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, and NBA 2K25.
The best part is you don’t need to download the games because they stream directly from Microsoft’s data center. This is great since game files are getting huge. However, you’ll need a strong internet connection, and watch out for any data limits your provider might have, or you could run into trouble.
To start streaming, go to My games & apps > Full library > Owned games. Look for a “cloud badge” next to games that are streamable. You can also use filters to see only cloud-ready games. Microsoft plans to add more features, like launching directly from the Store app and streaming through the Xbox app on Windows PCs.
We think it’s really neat when companies make it easier for us to play games we love.
If a game you like leaves Game Pass, you can still stream it as long as it’s available for purchase and supports cloud streaming. Just buy the game, and you can keep playing!
